Just another Samstagnachmittag

It’s our last full weekend here in Lübeck, just another Saturday afternoon. Next Sunday we’ll clean our flat and pack up, leaving a few things with Peter for safekeeping, and head to Sicily for our last ten days in Europe. We’ve walked down every strasse in Lübeck, checked out all the thrift shops, visited nearly every museum, and eaten way too much kuchen and not enough grünkohl, which is fine with me. I haven't had my fill of Germany just yet, but it's nice to know that when it's time to leave, I might be okay with the idea after all. I was starting to worry about myself.

This morning, I said to Gary, apparently with too much enthusiasm, “Let’s take the train to Ratzeburg today!”  His response was, “Do you really want to go somewhere?” Ha ha! If we had a beautiful old medieval city a half hour by train from Big Sandy Lake, you can bet we would be going there all the time, but here, it's just another beautiful old medieval city.

Last night we attended a concert at the music academy -- this time, a cello concert. These free concerts are performed nearly daily in Lübeck, and are essentially recitals by the students at the Lübeck Musikhochschole, all of which are highly trained. We’ve heard some wonderful music, and have also been exposed to some experimental pieces, like the organ piece at Lübeck Cathedral that sounded like the organist was lying down on the keyboard at one point. When the piece was over, you knew you had heard everything that Danish pipe organ was capable of, whether you wanted to or not!

It’s a lazy Saturday, so I’ll just share a few photos that don’t fit anywhere else in this blog. Here are some interesting door handles we’ve seen:

. . . and a fun rain gutter. . .

. . . all in just another day in Germany.
